Wednesday, October 2 GOVERNOR HAS UNTIL OCTOBER 13 TO SIGN CRITICAL HOUSING BILLS! |

The 2019 Legislative Session has ended but key housing bills still sit on the Governor's desk, waiting for his signature! We're thrilled that most of NPH's Priority Bills passed out of the legislature this year, and we need your help ensuring that the Governor takes action and signs these bills into law. This is why NPH has joined with affordable housing and homelessness leaders from around the state to pen an open letter to Governor Gavin Newsom asking him to sign into law critical housing bills. Check out the letter for details on the housing bills and please share with your networks! |

Add Your Voice: Send a Letter Directly to the Governor! It is especially urgent that the Governor hear from us on two housing bills whose futures remain uncertain: AB 1487, which will allow the Bay Area to join together to find Bay Area-specific solutions to its housing affordability needs, and AB 1486, which will strengthen the state's Surplus Land Act to transform unused public land into a public good, like affordable homes. Please take one last action for housing this legislative session: let Governor Gavin Newsom know how crucial AB 1486 and AB 1487 will be for our neighbors, friends, and families by submitting a letter of support now! |

Via ABC News, our Executive Director Amie Fishman responded to reports that the Trump Administration may try to use law enforcement to force people experiencing homelessness in California into federal shelters. "We know the public support is behind . . . housing first strategies . . . it's absurd to have to say [this] but we need homes for our vulnerable community members, not to lock people up . . . And it's exactly the kind of rhetoric Trump has used to divide us . . . " |

Thank you to everyone who joined us on September 20 at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis for our annual affordable housing conference! This was our largest conference to date, with over 1,200 attendees! Our hope is that we all walked away empowered with more knowledge, motivated by strong connections, and inspired to incorporate into our affordable housing movement the key theme of this year's conference plenary: the importance of connecting and centering our collective work on racial equity, wealth and income equality, and institutional and structural change.
