NON-PROFIT HOUSING ASSOCIATION OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA | | | | The Voice of Affordable Housing | | | | | | Wednesday, July 24 NPH PRIORITY BILLS NEED YOUR ATTENTION DURING SUMMER RECESS! | | Even though it's summer recess for the state legislature through August 12, it's critical that we increase our advocacy efforts to ensure that our policymakers support a pro-housing agenda. As members of the Senate and Assembly head back to their home districts, they'll be meeting with constituents to discuss the first seven months of the legislative session. Once legislators return from recess they'll be working on lots of housing-related bills, and many of these are NPH Priority Bills. Now is a great time to let legislators know that we're still watching critical housing bills and encourage their support! Check out our Action Center for the latest information on NPH Priority Bills and ways you can engage. | | | Important Vote This Morning: Three of NPH's Priority Bills are being discussed this morning by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) Legislative Committee: AB 1486, AB 1487, and SB 330. (The meeting is happening now, and you can still catch the live webcast.) These NPH-sponsored bills are critical for helping address the housing crisis, and MTC's approval/support is an important next step for when the legislative sessions reopens. The status and summary of each of these bills are below: - Assembly Bill 1486: AB 1486, which would strengthen the California Surplus Land Act to transform unused public land into a public good, recently passed out of Senate Housing Committee with a strong 8-3 vote, and is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee. Learn more.
- Assembly Bill 1487: AB 1487 would provide new regional funding and programs to strengthen our Bay Area region with more affordable homes and tenant protections through the development of a regional authority to be governed by MTC and ABAG. This bill is now in the Senate Appropriations Committee. Learn more.
- Senate Bill 330: SB 330 would create more affordable housing opportunities for California families and workers by ensuring local governments each maintain consistent rules and regulations. This bill is now in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. Learn more.
