NPH recognizes that a successful, meaningful internship program provides not only placements with great organizations, but also educational opportunities for our interns to build their knowledge of affordable housing and share their experiences. We held two orientation sessions in June where interns got a quick tour of the industry landscape guided by practitioners in the field, covering the history of affordable housing, the legacy of the affordable housing movement, real estate fundamentals, and development feasibility. We wrapped up with a guided walking tour of affordable housing properties in the downtown Oakland area, where interns were able to see a variety of affordable homes - the tangible impact of our industry and movement. Now, our BAHIP interns are headed off to a three-day boot camp at UC Davis, where they will do a deeper dive into the skill sets they will need to become project managers. Maybe it’s advice you received when you were first starting out, a word of wisdom that kept you going, or lessons learned along the way… We’re looking to NPH members to share your unique affordable housing industry perspectives! Tweet your best advice with the hashtag #BAHIP this week, as interns learn, collaborate, and sharpen their skills at the UC Davis boot camp. |
