Dear NPH Supporter,

The Bay Area Housing Internship Program (BAHIP) is underway! We have been thrilled with the great interest in our community for this program. Now, we are pleased to share updates on the beginning of this yearlong, transformative program with you-- and an opportunity to participate by sharing your own guidance with our 12 interns!

NPH recognizes that a successful, meaningful internship program provides not only placements with great organizations, but also educational opportunities for our interns to build their knowledge of affordable housing and share their experiences. We held two orientation sessions in June where interns got a quick tour of the industry landscape guided by practitioners in the field, covering the history of affordable housing, the legacy of the affordable housing movement, real estate fundamentals, and development feasibility. We wrapped up with a guided walking tour of affordable housing properties in the downtown Oakland area, where interns were able to see a variety of affordable homes - the tangible impact of our industry and movement.

Now, our BAHIP interns are headed off to a three-day boot camp at UC Davis, where they will do a deeper dive into the skill sets they will need to become project managers.

**Will you share your advice with BAHIP interns?**

Maybe it’s advice you received when you were first starting out, a word of wisdom that kept you going, or lessons learned along the way…  We’re looking to NPH members to share your unique affordable housing industry perspectives!

Tweet your best advice with the hashtag #BAHIP this week, as interns learn, collaborate, and sharpen their skills at the UC Davis boot camp.

NPH extends our special thanks to our BAHIP orientation presenters: Don Falk, Andy Madeira, Anna Alexander, Regina Williams, Lisa Motoyama, Cindy Heavens, Abby Goldware, and Elissa Dennis. For more information and updates, check out NPH's BAHIP page.

The Bay Area Housing Internship Program

Modeled after the highly successful Rural West Internship Program of the California Coalition for Rural Housing, NPH developed the Bay Area Housing Internship Program (BAHIP) to recruit and cultivate an inclusive and diverse talent pool of project managers. This year-long paid internship is designed to increase diversity in the affordable housing development field and assist in meeting the needs of communities we serve throughout the Bay Area. We’re honored to launch this critical initiative to support the development of a more diverse and inclusive workforce for our sector and our communities!
